Fried steak, also called "Booftek" in Arabic, is cuts of thin round steak, breaded, and fried until brown and crispy on both sides. Traditionally we serve this with cinnamon macaroni, but some nights I choose to eat it along with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli. Sometimes I dip it in ketchup, sometimes I don't.
Ingredients:
4 pieces of thin round steak
1 cup flour
1-2 cups of seasoned bread crumbs
1 egg, whisked with a few drops of hot sauce
salt and pepper for seasoning the meat
canola oil for frying
Directions:
Season both sides of steaks with salt and pepper. Dredge each piece in flour, then in the egg mixture, then in the seasoned breadcrumbs (start with 1 cup, add more as needed), pressing down to coat with as much breadcrumbs as possible.
Heat oil in a skillet. Fry pieces of steak until each side is a deep golden brown color. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle lightly with salt. Serve immediately.
